DESIGN ITALY EDITORIAL by Emanuele Drago: A Brand New Color for 2022

Not just a simple blue or lilac: Very Peri is the new Pantone Color of the Year 2022. A vibrant shade that will inspire new trends in design, fashion and more.

One thing you can be sure about this time of year – just as much as you know you’ll hear Mariah Carey Christmas songs on the radio – is that Pantone unveils its choice of colour for the upcoming year.

“Happy Periwinkle Blue”, everyone!

Very Peri (PANTONE 17-3938 TCX Very Peri) is the hue that – at least apparently – is set to impact the world of fashion and design. For us ordinary mortals, it is a mix of blue and violet. But for design lovers, it’s a periwinkle blue with purple and red undertones. At least this new tone is a breath of fresh air after last year’s sombre choice of “Ultimate Grey”, which didn’t help much in invigorating spirits amidst the ongoing pandemic.

So what exactly does “Very Peri” mean? It’s a colour that seeks to evoke balance, harmony, wholesomeness and light-heartedness, combining the dependable qualities of blue with the passion and emotion of red.

Sophisticated and original, Very Peri is a colour we expect to see not only in the world of fashion and interior design, but also in the automotive sector. Versatile and soothing, it can be a great choice for interior decoration, on walls as paint or wallpaper (perhaps interspersed with white or pearl grey walls), or in furniture. Try imagining a periwinkle lacquered boiserie in the dining room: it’s a brave choice, but with guaranteed results!

If you’re looking to make less drastic use of this new colour, try adding small accent pieces. Like a periwinkle-coloured pouf, like Lunella by Enrico Baleri; an armchair, like the Kin Lounge by Radice/Orlandini; or a 3D printed vase by DygoDesign, and your space will burst with vibrant vitality. And if you love rugs, choose one with shimmering fibres that will bring Very Peri to life and will shift shades as the lighting changes throughout the day. Plus, a big rug brings a multitude of benefits: it expands spaces, evens out a room’s colour palette, and provides warmth and comfort.

At Design Italy you’ll find a wide range of products to furnish your home with this new trending colour, including pet cushions by Brandodesign for your furry friend.

All you have to do is get creative and start experimenting!
